Chocolate Fudge Milkshake

Chocolate Fudge Milkshake

Chocolate Fudge Milkshake

The chocolate milkshake is the most
popular milkshake flavour in the world and the version that most rewards the
extra effort of using both chocolate ice cream and chocolate sauce rather than
simply one. The combination creates a depth of chocolate flavour with layers of
sweetness, bitterness, and richness that a single chocolate component cannot
match. This is the milkshake that chocolate lovers order when they want the
full chocolate experience.

The chocolate fudge sauce, made from
dark chocolate and cream, is the upgrade that most distinguishes this from a
standard chocolate shake. Where chocolate ice cream alone produces a sweet,
familiar chocolate flavour, adding a tablespoon of properly made dark chocolate
sauce introduces a bittersweet complexity and a fudge-like richness that
transforms the drink. The sauce also thickens the shake slightly, producing a
denser, more indulgent texture.

Dark chocolate at 70 percent cocoa
or higher produces the best sauce for this application. The bitterness of
high-percentage dark chocolate cuts through the sweetness of the ice cream and
the milk and produces a shake that tastes genuinely chocolatey rather than
merely sweet and brown. Milk chocolate sauce produces a sweeter, milder result
that many children prefer but that lacks the depth that makes this shake
genuinely excellent.

Notes

Drizzling chocolate sauce around the inside of the
glass before pouring is the technique that produces the Instagram-worthy
chocolate-streaked glass visual.

Use a combination of chocolate sauce in the blend and
as a topping for layered chocolate flavour intensity.

Dark chocolate sauce rather than commercial chocolate
syrup produces a dramatically better flavour with genuine bitterness and
complexity.

Blend as briefly as possible. The shake should be thick
and cold not warm and thin.

A tablespoon of cocoa powder added to the blender
alongside the ice cream deepens the chocolate flavour further without adding
sweetness.

For maximum indulgence add a tablespoon of peanut
butter to the blend for a chocolate peanut butter shake.

Chilling the glasses in the freezer for 10 minutes
before serving keeps the shake cold and thick for longer.
